I said it to myself and I’m sure you’re saying it to yourself, too – oh look, another researcher writing another blog, how original, how groundbreaking. Well, let the record show that I never claimed to be either of those things, and there may yet be merit to this whole blog thing…
I start my PhD in October 2025. I’ll be continuing to work full time, and will be working on my PhD part-time. I’m not sure which will be more stressful, but I’m excited to spend the next seven or so years finding out.
That’s where this blog comes in.
Part journal, part research-aid, part networking tool, and part “place to put stuff that I think is really interesting but can’t fit into the actual thesis”, I hope that I’ll actually keep up with this site, because I feel like it could be really beneficial in bolstering the motivation I may well start to lack as the near-decade of research ticks on. I’ve started 700 blogs in my time, and they all inevitably peter out because i can’t quite decide what it is I want them to be. They always merge or meld and house poetry or think pieces, and end up becoming some weird Frankenstein’s blog of disparate thoughts and feelings that just ends up being borderline embarrassing to look back on. I can’t promise this won’t be embarrassing, but at least it’ll (hopefully) be thematic.
